Learner Wellbeing & Mental Health Policy

Purpose
To support and promote the mental health and overall well-being of all learners, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Policy Statement
City First Aid Training Ltd (CFA) is committed to fostering a positive, healthy environment where learners’ mental health and well-being are prioritised. We provide access to mental health resources, counseling services, and well-being programs designed to help learners manage stress, anxiety, and personal challenges.

Scope
This policy applies to all learners enrolled in CFA’s training programmes and team members of CFA.

At the start of each course, tutors acknowledge the potentially distressing nature of first aid emergencies and inform all learners of supportive options available if they feel upset. These include:

  1. Taking a break to get some fresh air

  2. Going for a walk

  3. Having a supportive conversation

  4. Rescheduling the course

  5. Accessing mental health support services

Resources: CFA team members can provide resources for professional mental health support services, including counseling, to address stress, anxiety, or other mental health concerns.

  • Counseling services are confidential and can be accessed by contacting 1737

  • CFA offers resources focused on stress management, mindfulness, resilience, and work-life balance in their first aid training classes.

  • Physical health resources are available through the Ministry of Health website/Healthline

  1. Accessing Support

    • Learners can seek support from a CFA team member for guidance on accessing mental health services and well-being resources.

    • Information on external mental health services and helplines will be provided to ensure learners have support outside of first aid training.

Responsibilities

  • Learners are encouraged to reach out for help and participate in well-being programmes to support their mental and physical health.

  • CFA team members are trained to recognise signs of stress and mental health issues in learners, offering initial support and guiding learners to the appropriate resources. *

Confidentiality
All learner information and discussions related to mental health support are handled with strict confidentiality, in line with our Privacy and Confidentiality Policy.

Review
This policy is reviewed annually to ensure it aligns with best practices and the requirements of relevant codes and standards for learner wellbeing.
