Learning With Us
When you join a City First Aid course, you’re not just sitting in a classroom. We see it as a journey - all of us in the same waka, paddling together, with the shared goal of arriving confident and capable at the end.
Practical and Hands-On
Our courses are active and focused on real-life scenarios. You’ll practice skills in a safe environment where it’s okay to make mistakes and reflect. By keeping learning simple and relevant, and by anchoring it through practice, you’ll leave confident and ready to respond in an emergency.
Supportive Tutors
We’ll guide the journey, and you’ll guide your own learning. Everyone learns differently, and our tutors will support you with space to ask questions, plenty of practice, discussion, and feedback.
Inclusive and Respectful
We paddle as one waka - carrying the diversity of our community with us. Our belief is simple: with the right skills, ordinary people can step up and make a difference when it matters most.
Looking After Yourself While Learning
Sometimes learning first aid can stir up strong feelings. Our tutors are trained in trauma-aware practice and will create a safe, supportive space where you can take part comfortably.
If things feel overwhelming, let your tutor know. Together we’ll steady the waka and find the best way forward for you. Your wellbeing matters most.
No Surprises in Assessment
Assessment is simply part of the journey, a chance to show what you’ve learned and anchor those skills for real life. We’ll explain every task clearly, and you’ll have plenty of time to practice first. Assessments include scenario-based practical's and a short written task (you can preview the written questions HERE)
If something doesn’t go right the first time, that’s okay, we’ll support you to try again. Adjustments can be made if you need them, so the waka stays steady and everyone has the chance to succeed.
