First Aid Basics Christchurch | Customised First Aid Training

Not everyone needs a first aid certificate. Sometimes, you just need to know what to do.

That is where our First Aid Basics course fits.

For people attending one of our public courses in either Christchurch, Rangiora, Hanmer or Kaikōura, First Aid Basics covers the same core first aid information as our Foundation First Aid course. But without the assessments required for a national qualification.

You still learn all the practical stuff. CPR. Choking. Bleeding. Medical emergencies. What to look for, what to do first, and what you could actually do while you are waiting for more help.

You just don’t need to prove it in an assessment for a certificate.

Customised first aid training for community groups, outdoor groups and higher-risk workplaces

So who is First Aid Basics for?

It works particularly well for people who want useful first aid knowledge but do not need a formal workplace first aid qualification.

That might be a community group, a family, a club, a group of volunteers, or people who regularly spend time somewhere that help may not arrive immediately.

And for private groups, First Aid Basics can become something quite specialised.

Because there is no assessment schedule we need to work towards, we can build the course around the risks you are actually likely to face.

First aid that fits where you are

A first aid course for a group of trampers does not necessarily need to look the same as a course for an office team. Neither should a course for arborists or others working in high risk environments.

Over the years, people have used our First Aid Basics training in quite different ways.

We have worked with teachers and community patrol groups who wanted practical first aid knowledge they could use if something happened in their community.

For outdoor groups and agricultural workplaces, the conversation can shift towards what happens when you are a long way from an ambulance. We can spend more time on injuries, managing someone until help arrives, what you have available with you, and how your decisions change when emergency help may be some time away.

Other groups may want more time spent on children, medical emergencies, aged-care falls, burns, severe bleeding, or whatever is most relevant to their people and their environment.

That is the advantage of a customised First Aid Basics course. We are not trying to squeeze your workplace or group into a standard lesson plan. We can start with a much more useful question:

What could realistically happen here?

Then we build the training around it.

But it is still first aid

Customised does not mean filling a course with rare or dramatic emergencies. The basics are still core skills. Keeping yourself safe. Being able to recognise that something is wrong. Knowing when to call 111. Helping someone unconscious. Starting CPR. Using an AED. Managing choking or serious bleeding.

Those are the skills that can matter almost anywhere.

The difference is that we can spend more time applying them to situations your group can actually picture themselves in.

Because it is much easier to remember first aid when it feels connected to your world.
