Meet Jodie | City First Aid Christchurch

We’re excited to introduce Jodie, the newest member of our City First Aid teaching team! With a background in emergency nursing and a love for adventure sports like mountain biking, Jodie brings both expertise and energy to the classroom.

At CFA, we’re proud to be homegrown at the core — with Vicky and Brian, both born and raised right here in Aotearoa. They’ve travelled widely for work, service, and adventure, yet their Kiwi roots remain a steady foundation for our team.

They’re supported by our wonderfully international teaching team: Jodie from Canada, Yvonne from the Netherlands, and Nick from England, plus Gail, our local bramble, - anchored in Aotearoa but shaped by seasons spent overseas.

Between us, we’ve lived and learned in many countries and cultures, and those experiences flavour everything we do, making our training inclusive, relatable, and culturally responsive.

It’s that blend of local heart and global perspective that keeps our waka balanced, bringing a world of understanding to first aid here at home.

And now, let’s meet one of the newest paddlers on our City First Aid waka - Jodie

How long you have been with the team:

I’ve just recently joined the amazing team at City First Aid as a new tutor.

What I love most about teaching First Aid:

I love being able to share my passion for teaching life-saving skills and empowering people to feel confident in emergency situations.

My favourite Kiwi summer activity:

When I’m not teaching, you’ll usually find me out on the trails – mountain biking is one of my absolute favourite pastimes.

What inspired me to start teaching First Aid:

My background is in nursing, particularly in the Emergency Department, where I saw first-hand how crucial quick and effective action can be in saving lives. Teaching First Aid allows me to pass on that knowledge so others can stay calm, confident, and capable in emergencies. Whether it’s treating a small cut or responding to a serious injury, these skills are life-changing – and that’s why I love teaching them.

Jodie’s adventurous spirit, paired with her emergency nursing experience and passion for teaching, brings real flavour to our team. We’re thrilled to have her as part of our international group of instructors. Make sure to say hi when you meet her in class, she's coming to a classroom near you soon.
